This retreat will draw primarily on key passages in the Gospels which shed light on our Lord and on our calling as Jesus’ disciples. Three main conference sessions will focus on The Lord of the Disciple, The Disciple of the Lord, and The Way of the Disciple of the Lord. As the titles suggest, our aim is to look at the theme of discipleship from several angles: Who exactly is the Lord of the disciple, and what are the implications of getting this right? What exactly does it mean to be a disciple? And what is the path of actually becoming faithful disciples? A fourth and final conference Following the Lord in the Way as Disciples will engage the retreat topics in a guided discussion format, proceeding from understanding to application. Our goal is not merely to learn about discipleship, but actually to become the disciples Jesus has called us to be.
Just as we cannot love what (or whom) we do not know, so we cannot truly be disciples of One whose identity is blurry or if we do not even grasp what being His disciple entails. The quiet retreat setting provides a perfect time and place for aspiring disciples to ponder prayerfully and personally the implications of that statement. Attendees should anticipate a deeply transforming encounter with the ultimate Disciple-Maker, Jesus our Lord.
The retreat starts Friday, August 19th, with rosary and Mass at 7:00pm and ends Saturday, August 20th, at 6:00pm with Supper. Throughout the retreat there will be opportuinties for daily Mass, Confessions, prayer, silence, formation, and group discussion.
