The Climax of Revelation: Making Sense of the Bible’s Last Book

Battles and visions and dragons—oh my! Reading the book of Revelation can often leave its reader with the Oz effect: “I don’t think we’re in the Bible anymore.” How is one supposed to understand the many twists and turns of such a unique book? Through the centuries, many faithful (and not so faithful) have attempted to unlock its hidden meanings and messages and have consequently left behind more interpretations and proposals than there are fish in the sea—or so it can seem. In this course, we will seek to read the book of Revelation from the heart of the Church, with our eyes fixed on Christ, in order to understand its message as God’s Word and to receive it faithfully as such. In doing so, the last book of the Bible will no longer be shrouded in mystery but will be opened and revealed, drawing the faithful reader in to a hope of restoration, consummation, and a creation renewed.

This five-week course is open to all who wish to encounter Christ and gain a deepened understanding of His Word. And whether you take it for personal enrichment, or to support your formal teaching, or to provide greater liturgical appreciation, it is designed to deepen our knowledge of God and to move our hearts toward greater faith and devotion as we meet our Lord in the life-transforming message of Sacred Scripture.
